With FAC 2 win behind him, David Onama wants to make 2020 his year

Coming off an undefeated first year as a pro in 2019, featherweight David Onama was looking to continue his success in 2020 when he faced Antonio Castillo at FAC 2 on February 22.

At just about the three minute mark, Onama was able to pick up the TKO win over Castillo, running his career starting winning streak to four in a row.

“I felt good,” Onama told MMAWeekly.com. “I felt like I did what I had to do. I got the job done. I performed well. I’m happy with my performance. (Castillo) was tough.”

For Onama, his win over Castillo helped showcase a change he has made in his game to be less of a brawler and more in control during fights.

“(Before) I didn’t really come out with a good game plan,” said Onama. “I came out scrambling, street fighting him. This last fight I was a different fighter. I was doing more of my range, staying on my shots, and staying calm. I went in there calm, just picking my shots.

“I think I’m picking my shots better instead of just going out there and street fighting. I’ve made a lot of game changes.”

Looking ahead to the rest of 2020, Onama is keeping his goals focused on his development and what’s directly in front of him.

“From my first fight to my fourth fight I get better,” Onama said. “Every fight I go back and watch film and work on things I feel like I need work on. One of my main goals is to be better than my last fight.

“I’m ready for whatever opportunity I get. I’m consistent on the job and I’m ready for whatever. I want to make 2020 my year.”
